Multi-user issue, cannot access file

If Quickbooks is configured for Multi-user but can’t communicate with the file, then make sure that the database user has explicit permission to access the folder where the company file is hosted.



  • Go to the properties window of the folder that contains the company file.
  • Click the Security tab.
  • Click Edit…
  • If the QB Data Service User is not listed:
  • Open the Computer Management Console and find the exact name in Local Users and Groups > Users.
  • Click Add
  • Type in the user name and click “Check Names”.
  • Click OK
  • Give the User Full Control.
